Past Garden Visits and Speakers

Growing in the Border, Blackbrook Estate's private gardens, have been the creative project of Boo Vaughan for over 30 years. Together with her gardener Kathryn Owen, who has worked there for 10 years, they have created a beautiful garden in the Monnow Valley near Skenfrith.

The garden is long and thin forming a division between mature woodland behind and pasture in front and includes a box-edged lawn, borders of themed colours, a water sculpture, dovecote, ponds, gravel garden and pergola..

Listed Arts and Crafts garden laid out by H Avray Tipping 100 years ago. Recently redesigned by Arne Maynard. Original features include impressive stone terraces with far-reaching views over the Vale of Usk. Pergola, herbaceous borders, Edwardian glasshouse, orchard with wildflowers.

3 acre wildflower meadow including rare orchids. Owner led tour with plant identification. Gravel garden, raised veg beds and water feature, pond with candelabra primula and bog plants.

Enjoy a plant sale and at 2pm Jill will discuss irises that show a rainbow of colour and are easier than most people think

Rowan, Senior Gardener at Hergest Croft, will talk about the extensive collection of magnolias growing there.
