Description
Twelve acres of gardens designed in 1922 by H. Avray Tipping around High Glanau Manor, an important Arts and Crafts house. Tipping was the Architectural Editor of Country Life magazine from 1907 until his death in 1933. What was a rustic stone tank set into the wall with steps leading to a swimming pool, surrounded by concrete and lampposts, are now 100 ft long double herbaceous borders. These contrast with groves of rhododendrons and azaleas sweeping down over the steep stone path which leads down to the stream garden with its fernery, and primula beds along the waterside. There are far reaching views over the Vale of Usk from impressive stone terraces.
