The HPS started in 1957 as a group dedicated to educating and maintaining the role of perennial plants within British gardens. The Herefordshire and Mid-Wales Group was started in 1990 to serve members across the area through providing talks, meetings, events and other items.

From these beginnings, a vibrant group of like-minded gardeners has grown who meet up regularly either physically or virtually.
